CHOOSING YOUR SPECTACLES
We stock frames by Silhouette, Gucci, Hardy Amies, Moschino, Adidas, Prada, Jaguar and many other well known brands.
We also have flexible frames from Flexon and Memoflex and a very popular rimless collection by Silhouette. Our children's frames include the Barbie and Action Man ranges, plus Fisher Price and Beano styles. We also have a good range of budget frames.
We are long past the days when "any old spectacles would do" and people who needed them often didn't wear them because they thought they made them look serious or unattractive.
At last, both men and women have realised that spectacles make all the difference to how they want to look and the image they want to create.
Spectacles are now very much in vogue as a fashion accessory as well as a vital piece of vision improving equipment. People use their specs to alter their image, go with their clothes or make themselves look more attractive. Spectacles are like clothes - either they fit or they look faintly ridiculous. One person's style is another's nightmare -faces, like bodies, come in all shapes and colours. Here's our guide as to how to choose the right pair of specs for you.
The key to well fitting comfortable glasses is the bridge of the frames, which can also make all the difference to your appearance. Long noses look shorter in frames with a low-set bridge, while a high bridge in line with the top of the frames suits short ones. Close-set eyes can be countered by a thin or clear bridge, which will appear to add width, and wide-set eyes can be visually drawn together by a thicker or darker one.
The top of the frames should not go any higher than the line of the eyebrows or the effect will be to make you look permanently surprised. Make sure the lower edge of your frames clears your cheeks and can't rub or irritate your skin. Don't be afraid to experiment with different frames before you buy - pull faces and grin into the mirror when you're testing out the frames - they should be able to accommodate all your normal expressions comfortably.
Remember that we are happy to help, should you need assistance.
If your spectacles are your hallmark, and you want to make the boldest possible statement, colour is no problem. You probably have a wardrobe of styles anyway - and the more outrageous the better. But for most of us, the two or three, go everywhere pairs of frames must suit both our clothes and colouring.
Those who have pale complexions tend to look good in lightweight metal frames. Clear frames will also suit. Those with a dash of rose or amber will warm very pale skin but can overload a face that flushes easily. Blue or green frames will drain any colour from cool cheeks and clear crystal frames are far too colourless for already pale faces.
Tortoiseshell or auburn frames compliment people with red hair and freckles. Gold, copper and bronze also look good. Chocolate shades also work well.
Those who have dark complexions should go for clear, silver or gold frames. Experiment with burgundy, tortoiseshell and browns, but black can be too heavy.
All metallic frames suit black skins, but clear crystal can end up looking oddly pale. Amber works well; black is either wonderful or awful depending on the style.
For the children, we have a wide range of frames to appeal to all tastes:
Fisher Price, Action Man, Barbie and Morgan are just some of the specially designed frames to appeal to your kids, however old or young.
